Try These Ohio Thanksgiving Traditions

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

We asked our staff to share some of their Turkey Day traditions. Although we call Ohio home, these can become traditions in any state!

1. Run a 5K

"In my house we don't have any relatives living near us. So, my small family has started a few traditions that we seem to enjoy. On Thanksgiving morning, for the past 6 years, we have been running in the Flying Feather 4 Miler in Dublin, Ohio. This race benefits the 2nd & 7 Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need, while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward.

2. Take the Amtrak

"When my boys were little, we would go to visit my brother and his family in Connecticut. It was another simple train ride from there into New York City where we would watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The boys absolutely loved it!"

3. Pass on a Favorite Recipe

"We always make pumpkin pie and a spicy chex mix called Texas Trash."

-Nicole Lietz, Legal Assistant

4. Put up the Christmas Tree

"Because we have birthdays on 12/20 and 12/23, we ALWAYS put up all the Christmas decorations on the Friday after Thanksgiving!"

-Nicole Lietz, Legal Assistant

5. Wear NFL Jerseys and Play some Football

"Thanksgiving Day does revolve around family but, football plays a big part too. Our family members wear their favorite NFL jerseys and no matter what state we are celebrating in, we get outside and have us a little game."

-Nicole Lietz, Legal Assistant

6. Online Shop

"After the food has been eaten and the board games have been played, it's time to get out the Black Friday ads and start shopping. But, instead of joining the pre-Black Friday crowds, we snuggle up in our elastic waist pajamas and find our deals online!

-Audra Cremeans, Social Media Strategist

7. Set Up A Puzzle Table

"We always put up a small table to work jigsaw puzzles on and there is a puzzle in progress all through the holidays beginning with Thanksgiving."

-Peggy Bartsch, Client Relations

8. Make A Favorite Dish, but use a NEW recipe

"Our meal is made upon new dishes every year.

We always have a turkey and some of the traditional sides, but we change up the recipes. This is part of the fun for us.

-Peggy Bartsch, Client Relations

Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving tradition? We'd love to hear about it!

Happy Thanksgiving! Go make some memories!
